District 54 sets 0.7 percent tax levy increase

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 board members will hold a public hearing at their meeting of Nov. 17 on the proposed 2016 property tax levy of $171.2 million - a 0.7 percent increase over the 2015 levy.

The increase reflects a combination of the rate of inflation as well as an allowance for a low level of new construction, district officials said.

Though school districts are required by law to adopt their levies by the end of the year, District 54 board members traditionally approve theirs at the same meeting as the public hearing. This will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Rafferty Administration Center, 524 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

The property tax levy provides the majority of a school district's revenue for the following academic year.
