Endorsement: Weinstein for Lake County clerk of circuit court

The Lake County circuit court clerk race has generated fireworks this election season.

Incumbent Keith Brin and challenger Erin Cartwright Weinstein sharply disagree on whether the office is using technology to the best of its ability.

Brin, a Republican from Highland Park, says he's fulfilled his 2012 campaign promise to update technology in the office. Weinstein, an attorney from Gurnee, contends that Brin has spent too much money on systems that remain unfinished.

Brin has made headlines for questionable spending on food and travel during his first term in office. Brin also was accused of intimidating employees who were trying to unionize. Later, he lost a lawsuit related to employees' efforts to unionize.

Weinstein is focused on improving relationships with clerks and working with the staff to provide quality customer service.

Weinstein is endorsed.
