Girls volleyball: Grayslake Central makes history with conference triumph

Cassidy Beshel had 7 kills, Morgan Anderberg added 5 kills and 15 digs, and Grayslake Central's girls volleyball team earned a share of the inaugural Northern Lake County Conference championship with a 25-23, 15-25, 25-19 win over visiting Wauconda on Thursday night.

It's the first conference championship in 24 years for the Rams (18-14), who finished 6-1 in the NLCC.

"This was a great win for us tonight against a very tough Wauconda team," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "Our girls wanted this conference title, and they stepped up big for their team tonight. I am so very proud of them."

The Rams also got 4 kills from Michelle Maraist, 10 assists from Lauren LaBeck, 9 assists and 2 aces from Lizzie Twardock and 14 digs from Abby Marassa.

Amanda Mason led Wauconda (13-20, 4-3) with 6 kills. Nicole Carazas had 5 kills and 6 digs, while Jane Sakowicz rang up 17 digs. Aimee Berg contributed 3 aces and 6 assists, and Summer Olsen had 8 assists and 6 digs.
