Main Street hill in Carpentersville reopened after truck crash

The Main Street hill in Carpentersville was reopened to traffic Thursday after crews finished cleaning the remnants of a truck crash Wednesday evening.

The semitrailer was traveling north on Route 31 about 4:52 p.m. when it attempted to turn right at the Main Street/Huntley Road intersection, Carpentersville Police Chief Michael Kilbourne said.

Because of the truck's size and the angle of the road, he said, the truck's trailer flipped and spilled the equipment it was carrying. The truck and equipment were cleared from the scene Wednesday night.

The truck also spilled diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid down the roadway, creating a slick and unsafe surface, Kilbourne said.

A company was hired to clean up the mess Thursday morning, police said, and the road was reopened about 11:45 a.m.

The driver of the semitrailer received four citations after the crash, Kilbourne said. Nobody was injured, and no other vehicles were involved.
