Police: 'Highly intoxicated' man assaulted Arlington Heights officers

A "highly intoxicated" Des Plaines man assaulted three Arlington Heights officers after police found him sleeping with his head in some bushes, authorities said.

Police responded to a well-being check at 11:45 p.m. Oct. 15 at Arlington Heights and Central roads, Sgt. Thomas Henderson said.

Robert A. Robinson, 27 was lying on the sidewalk with his head in the bushes, and when he woke up, "he got very aggressive with the officers at the scene," Henderson said.

Paramedics were unable to calm Robinson, who assumed a "boxer's stance" and repeatedly approached officers with fists raised, Henderson said.

"He was given multiple attempts to calm down and allow paramedics to do their job," he said.

Officers eventually arrested Robinson without any use of weapons, he said.

Robinson was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple battery and one count of resisting arrest.

He was taken to Northwest Community Hospital because of his level of intoxication, Henderson said. After being released, he was processed by Arlington Heights police and posted $150 bond. He's expected in court at 9 a.m. Dec. 1 in Rolling Meadows.
