Endorsement: Starrett for Kane County Board, Dist. 10

Republican incumbent Susan Starrett, 43, faces Democratic challenger Todd Zies, 52. Starrett's determination to hold the line on the tax levy, which has been frozen in recent years, and her opposition to a proposed cross-country track at Settler's Hill are key differences from Zies.

She is, however, open to increases in pay for elected officials and she favors adding staffing for law enforcement. Addressing mental health and substance abuse with grants could reduce recidivism and the county's costs, helping keep the budget in balance, she said, talking of her efforts to obtain outside funding in that area. She has experience and ideas, but she may find it hard to hold the line on the levy indefinitely. Starrett is endorsed
