Lisle preparing to dedicate new veterans' memorial

LISLE, Ill. (AP) - Lisle (LYL') residents have raised more than $115,000 to build a new veterans memorial.

The (Arlilngton Heights) Daily Herald reports volunteers are preparing the site on park district property. A granite stone with the five military branches' emblems should arrive by the planned Nov. 11 dedication.

Among the donations was a $16,500 grant Don Smith procured from Home Depot. Smith is a VFW Post No. 5696 trustee with a reputation for helping veterans. Many volunteers on the site are Home Depot employees helping out on a day off from work.

Smith said a previous memorial in Community Park near Lisle Senior High School was hard to find.

Volunteers sold 250 bricks that will have names of people who served in the military.
