Accessible playground opens Saturday in Elk Grove

A playground accessible to children with special needs opens Saturday at the Al Hattendorf Community Center in Elk Grove Village.

Elk Grove Park District officials will host a 2 p.m. ribbon cutting at the new fenced-in playground, located at 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd.

The play area includes a swing, super nova (spinning ring), overhead climber, group seesaw, sway fun rider, hand cycling station and swinging bench. Crews finished pouring the rubberized surface for the playground last week, and are doing landscaping this week, said park director Tom Busby.

The park district budgeted $100,000 for the work.
