Cops: Update coming Thursday on Baby Hope probe
New information in the Baby Hope investigation will be revealed Thursday morning during a news conference in Wheaton, authorities said Monday.
The DuPage County sheriff's office says it will release new DNA-related information related to the possible identities of Baby Hope's parents at 10 a.m. at the DuPage County Courthouse, 501 N. County Farm Road.
Investigators say the information may be crucial in locating the mother and father of the newborn girl, found dead Aug. 15 after being abandoned in a wooded area off Plamondon Road in an unincorporated area near Wheaton. The infant was buried Sept. 22 at St. Michael Cemetery, about a half-mile from where she was found.
The sheriff's office said assistance from the media and public is "essential in bringing this tragic case to a close."
A $5,000 reward is being offered for anyone who provides information that helps identify or locate Baby Hope's parents. Anyone with information is being asked to call the sheriff's office at (630) 407-2400 or text anonymously at 274637 with the word SHERIFF and a message.
Parents in crisis can legally relinquish their baby, up to 30 days old, at a safe haven. Unharmed babies can be handed to staff members at any fire station, police station, hospital, emergency services facility, or college or university police station statewide.
