Suburban police taking back drugs Saturday

The public is invited to drop off unused and expired prescriptions this Saturday at the Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights and other police departments across the suburbs participating in the 12th National Drug Enforcement Agency Take-back Initiative.

Officials say the event is a safer alternative to throwing medications in the trash, which can potentially harm the environment. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Liquid medications and sharp materials, such as needles, will not be accepted.

The take-back runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 200 E. Sigwalt St. in Arlington Heights; 1418 Miner St. in Des Plaines; 112 E. Northwest Highway in Mount Prospect; and 14 E. Camp McDonald Road in Prospect Heights.
