Des Plaines Park District hosts 2nd Annual Family Fitness Day

Over 50 children and their parents participated in the second annual Family Fitness Day at Prairie Lakes Community Center on Oct. 9, 2016. The event featured activities for all ages including a parent/child mini-triathlon of biking, rowing and running; a climbing wall; a jump rope station; an obstacle course; and three 30-minute free fitness classes. The Des Plaines Police Department was on hand to provide free bicycle safety checks. Participants were given a Passport to Fitness when they arrived, and received a stamp for each activity they completed. At the close of the event, children were given Fitness Journals to help them create healthy habits and track their future fitness progress.

"Parents and children had a great time learning about fitness and how important it is to be active," said Shelli Sarg, Prairie Lakes Facility Manager. "Kids loved the Fitness Journals, the healthy snacks were a big hit, and it was great to see so many people come out for a fun fitness event."
