Oct. 29: CLC hosts Illinois Skyway Conference Jazz Festival

Jazz bands and combos from seven Chicago-area community colleges will meet to play music and compete at the College of Lake County Saturday, Oct. 29 when CLC hosts the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Jazz Festival. The event, free and open to the public, will take place in Room C005 (C Wing Auditorium) on the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Big bands and jazz combos from CLC, Elgin Community College, McHenry County College, Moraine Valley Community College, Oakton Community College, Prairie State College and Waubonsee Community College, and CLC's Tuesday Night Jazz Ensemble will compete and perform at the festival. CLC last hosted the event in 2008 and 2001. Each ensemble will participate in a clinic with one of the judges and receive feedback on its performance and participate in jam sessions.

The performance schedule is as follows: 9 a.m. - College of Lake County; 9:30 a.m. Elgin Community College; 10 a.m. - Waubonsee Community College; 10:30 a.m. - Oakton Community College; 11 a.m. - McHenry County College; 11:30 a.m. - Moraine Valley Community College Combo; noon - Prairie State College; 12:30 p.m. - Moraine Valley Community College Ensemble; 1:30-2 p.m. - Judges concert and awards.

The panel of clinicians includes Tim Barclay, Jim Batson, Dave Flippo, David Jennings and John Mojziszek, all of whom are CLC adjunct faculty members as well as well-known Chicago-area performers, teachers, composers and conductors.

In addition to athletics, the Skyway Conference offers co-curricular competitions in writing, art, STEM posters and jazz.
