SRACLC volleyball players champs at La Grange tourney

Submitted by the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County

On Sunday, Oct. 2, The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County, along with 11 other agencies, competed in the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Section Volleyball Tournament in La Grange. The tournament was hosted by The Southeast Association for Special Parks and Recreation.

SRACLC went into the tournament with a 5-3 record and came home with a first place finish. In the first match, SRACLC beat the NEDSRA Huskies 25-21 and 25-18. In the second match, SRACLC beat the MNASR Wildcats Purple 25-15 and 25-11.

Out of the 12 players on the team, only six players were able to make it to the tournament due to illness and vacations.

"With only having six players, we played very well. Every athlete in attendance had to play the whole game, every game. The six that played aren't always the starters, so it was great to see them work together and take home the championship. It was an awesome end to our season," coach Katelin Sheppard said.

This tournament put an end to the volleyball season for SRACLC, but basketball and snowshoeing begin at the end of the month. SRACLC provides 11 Special Olympics training programs throughout the year. The agency also offers several other programs available for ages 3 and older including camps, special events, and weekly programs.
