Week 8: Scouting the Chicago Catholic

Fenwick (6-1, 2-0) at St. Francis (1-6, 0-2)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Nolan Pechan's return to St. Francis was great, 164 of the Spartans' 416 yards rushing against Lake Forest Academy. This will be much tougher, though Pechan's return gives Joe Lang and Mike Cascella rest so they can cover Fenwick's tall wideouts.

Mt. Carmel (4-3) Montini (4-3)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Mt. Carmel has won 12 state titles, Montini 5. Right now they're both merely seeking a fifth win for playoff consideration. Though Montini returned quarterback Brad Norgle for some snaps last week, it's down to third-string back Jake Karczewski.

Marmion (5-2, 1-2) at DeLaSalle (5-2, 1-1)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Quick hit: Marmion became playoff eligible last week with a win over Chicago Catholic Green opponent St. Laurence. A victory on the Meteors' home field in the shadow of a CTA Green Line station would guarantee Marmion's third playoff berth in four seasons and its seventh under 12th-year coach Dan Thorpe.

St. Laurence (5-2, 1-0) at Aurora Christian (2-5, 0-2)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Quick hit: Aurora Christian, which advanced to the playoffs every season between 2002 and 2014, was eliminated from postseason play for the second straight year with last week's 34-24 loss to Chicago Catholic White leader St. Ignatius (6-1). The Eagles have been outscored 222-139.
