Brin Describes Award-Winning Modernization Effort

Since being elected in 2012, Keith Brin has led an award-winning modernization effort of the Lake County Circuit Court Clerk's office, fulfilling a key campaign promise he made to voters.

"When I took over, the Lake County Circuit Court Clerk's office was a 9-to-5 operation and you had to travel to Waukegan to get anything done. Now, the public has around-the-clock access to the services we provide from anywhere in the world via our updated website and brand new app. This is a significant step forward and a huge improvement in services," Brin explained.

Brin used technology to create around-the-clock access to the courts, accomplishing this without using a dime of taxpayer funds. This includes a state-of-the-art, real-time Electronic Filing System, which allows court documents to be filed and viewed remotely at any time of the day from any location, free public access to court and case information, and more.

In addition, Brin led an electronic transfer payment initiative in the county, expediting payments to every Lake County municipality and taxpayer and preventing the waste of 4,500 pieces of paper per month. He also revamped the Clerk's website, winning the Interactive Media Awards "Outstanding Achievement Award" in the government category.

But Brin understands that is just the beginning. Modernization takes time, especially when there are multiple bodies who need to approve each upgrade and they are sometimes resistant to change. He is dedicated to completing the modernization effort he began, utilizing current technology to improve communications, further improve efficiency and security, and vastly improve services.

"The Clerk's office was desperately in need of technological upgrades, and we have made significant progress. There is still more work to be done, and I hope voters will give me the chance to complete the work I have begun," Brin stated. "My goal is to reach a point where we are completely paper-on-demand in and out of our courtrooms, which will improve efficiency and security while further reducing waste."
