Consumers Credit Union Seeks Candidates for Board of Directors

Waukegan, IL, October 11, 2016: Wouldn't it be great if you had your car loan, mortgage, checking and savings accounts at a financial institution that had your best interests in mind? If you're a credit union Member, you do have that opportunity … because credit union Members are also the owners, with a voice in the governance of their financial institution, a voice that includes the opportunity to run for the credit union's Board of Directors. If that sounds interesting, Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $930 Million, Waukegan, IL) is accepting nominations for Members to run for its Board of Directors from now through October 31, 2016.

Members interested in serving on CCU's Board should send a statement of intent via eMail to Board@myconsumers.org, or by mail to Consumers Cooperative Credit Union, Attention: Nominating Committee, 1075 Tri-State Pkwy Suite #850 Gurnee, IL. 60031-1811. Candidates must include their name, address, along with their daytime and evening phone numbers in order to be considered. Interested candidates must be a CCU Member for at least one year on or before the date of election. The deadline for applying is 5:00 pm on Monday, October 31, 2016, with the election scheduled to be held at the Member-owned credit union's Annual Meeting on March 15, 2017.

"Credit unions believe active involvement of our Member volunteers is a key difference between us and other financial institutions," said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU's CEO. "The ability to serve on our all-volunteer Board of Directors provides credit unions with a valuable grassroots perspective of Member needs. Our Board consists of twelve (12) Members who come from many different backgrounds, and this diversity helps assure we consider opportunities and challenges from numerous points of view."

Those elected to the Board of Directors will serve a three (3) year term and are required to attend meetings approximately once per month throughout the year, as well as serve on Committees. "The volunteers on our Board provide unique insight on the future direction and governance of the Credit Union," continued Rathjen. "That's one of the many reasons we encourage Members to consider serving on our Board. With that in mind, we look forward to receiving many applications from qualified Members."
