Judson to host daylong applied theater conference Oct. 14

Judson University's Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts will host a free, daylong applied theater conference Friday, Oct. 14.

The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Thulin Performance Hall in the Thompson Center. It will feature guest artist Dale Savidge, a professor of theater at North Greenville University in South Carolina.

Savidge teaches courses in applied theater, theater history, theater theory and criticism and directing. He also is founder and director of Christians in Theatre Arts and the Applied Theatre Center and co-author of "Performing the Sacred: Theology and Theatre in Dialogue" (Baker Academic).

"Applied theater" is interactive and often used in an educational, community or therapeutic context. It is frequently done in nontheatrical spaces with participants who do not consider themselves to be artists, and it can be used as a form of worship in a church setting.

Performing arts and communication studies students, and worship leaders and pastors from the greater Elgin community are invited to attend.

A pizza lunch will be served. For information, call (847) 628-1110.
