Girls golf: WW South cruises to regional title

Wheaton Warrenville South ran away with the Class AA Glenbard East regional championship, shooting a 317 to win by 35 strokes Wednesday at Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Bloomingdale.

Wheaton Academy placed second at 352 and Glenbard West took third to advance to next week's sectional with a 377.

Tigers junior Sarah Hauenstein took medalist honors with a 75, edging teammate Hadley Moritz by a stroke.

Seniors Meredith Bult and Lauren Isenhart each led Wheaton Academy with an 86.

Glenbard South advanced three golfers, Elana Kozak, Madelyn Schmidt and Amanda Heuck.

Three Wheaton North golfers also advanced to the sectional: Sasha Danielson, Maddie Stevens and Taylor Stapinski. The Falcons placed fourth, a stroke better than the Raiders.

Class AA Plainfield North regional:

Waubonsie Valley shot a 353 to win by 18 strokes over Oswego East and by 23 over Neuqua Valley, which also qualified for next week's sectional as a team.

Waubonsie Valley junior Arushi Singh won medalist honors with a 77, and classmate Kerrigan Boose placed second with a 79.

Metea Valley qualified two golfers as individuals: senior Madison Grezlik shot a 90 and sophomore Madison Neihardt had a 95.

Class A Chicago University regional:

St. Francis junior Hailey Strickland and freshman Elizabeth Grivetti qualified individually for next week's sectional. IC Catholic senior Maddie Hurt shot an 81 to qualify, and Lisle seniors Katelyn Fonner and Anna Palicka each shot a 107 to qualify at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Indiana.
