ECC to host Oct. 19 Job and Career Fair in manufacturing and technology

Elgin Community College, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the Kane County Office of Community Reinvestment-Workforce Development Division, will hold a Job and Career Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The fair - which is geared for those interested in working in automotive technology, commercial driving, energy management, HVACR, and all manufacturing careers including CAD, CNC, and engineering and welding - will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in Building O near Hoffer and Gail Shadwell drives on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The fair is free and open to the public.

More than 30 employers are prepared to promote their open jobs as well as offer career advice to those who want to enter the field. As an added bonus, many employers will be offering site tour registration within a week of the event. The tours are available only to those who attend.

The event also will include interactive question and answer conversations with employers about what type of employee they are looking for, and what works in the interview process. Also, ECC admissions professionals will be present to offer information about all of ECC's Career and Technical Education programs for those changing majors, changing careers, or just interested in what short-term degree and certificate programs ECC offers.

Participants are encouraged to research the full list of participating employers by creating a free account at ECC's job and career portal, www.collegecentral.com/elgin. Attendees are asked to bring plenty of resumes and dress appropriately as they meet with employers.

This fair is a new approach for the college, which regularly holds one each spring. In addition to the Oct. 19 event, there will be job and career fairs focusing on business and professional services; science, technology, engineering and math; and health sciences. The next fair will be for business and professional services and will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Building B Jobe Lounge.

There are still a few slots available for employers to participate. For more information, contact ECC's Office of Career Development Services at (847) 214-7399 or visit elgin.edu/jobfair.
