Park District hosts local Punt, Pass & Kick

On Sunday, Sept. 25, the Des Plaines Park District hosted the annual NFL Punt, Pass & Kick local competition on the Prairie Lakes fields.

Every year, thousands of boys and girls across the country participate in PP&K, which has become one of the largest youth sports programs in the world.

The competition has six different brackets: boys ages 6-7, 8-9, and 10-11; and girls ages 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13. The competition is made up of three events: a punt, a pass, and a kick off a tee.

Each participant gets one try at each event and are judged on distance, as well as accuracy. If a participant throws the ball 30 feet but it was 10 feet off the line, the final distance would be 20 feet.

The winner of the boys 6-7 bracket was Ryan Cooper of Des Plaines with a total distance of 65 feet, 5 inches. Landon Sebo of Park Ridge won the boys 8-9 bracket with a total distance of 160 feet, 4 inches. Georgia Herman of Des Plaines took home top honors in the girls 8-9 bracket with a distance of 111 feet, 9 inches. Ben Cooper of Des Plaines won the boys 10-11 bracket with a combined 169 feet, 9 inches. Katelyn Dahl of Des Plaines won the girls 10-11 bracket with a distance of 127 feet, 7 inches, and Gillian Herman of Des Plaines won the girls 12-13 bracket with a distance of 147 feet, 8 inches.

The winners of the local competitions advance to the sectionals and compete for a chance to move on to the Team Competition at Soldier Field Dec. 4, when the Chicago Bears take on the San Francisco 49ers.

The winner of the Team Competition will represent the Bears at the National Competition, which will be held during Super Bowl 51 weekend at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
