If you are running for re-election, is there an important project you want to implement? If you are a challenger, is there a particular issue that motivates you? Please explain.I have been active in Lake Bluff as a school mom and charity volunteer over the years and now that my children are grown and my business is flourishing, I would like to use my experience and business skills to help improve our county government. What are your ideas to ensure the Lake County Discovery Museum remains relevant with county residents during the year it is closed while it moves from Wauconda to Libertyville and its new space is prepared?I would like the museum officials to take a traveling exhibition of select artifacts to every school in Lake County to make presentations to the students. Senior groups should also be contacted for both presentations and to see if they have any additional information or items that could be useful to the museum. Promoting your website with information and pictures is also a good idea.Do you believe all of the county board's and forest board's committee meetings should be televised live and webcast? Why or why not?I believe all public meetings should be digitally recorded for broadcast and preservation. I believe the Illinois Open Meetings Act should be amended to require the same. It promotes transparency and responsible government. Some municipalities are turning to Lake County government for contracted services in areas such as building inspections. For example, Lake Zurich signed a two-year contract with the county in late 2015 and expects to save $100,000 by paying $67 an hour for the inspections. Do you see this as a good thing for the county because of the revenue or are there concerns that should be addressed if these arrangements continue to grow? Please explain. The government has the responsibility to provide the best possible service from the most efficient and reliable source, whether that is a public employee or a private contractor. As long as private contractors are in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, there is no reason why they should not be considered or hired to do work traditionally done by full time government employees. Please list any elected office you've ever run for and what the result of that election was. Have you ever been appointed to fill an unexpired term?I have never run for public office before. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Like most Republicans, I believe the purpose of government is to do collectively what we cannot do individually. The hard part in a large government entity is making sure elected officials manage Lake County in a fair, honest and cost efficient manner. I will monitor the actions of our county government so that we do not expand our services beyond what is necessary to achieve our economic, public health and public safety goals. Like weeds in the backyard, if government is not monitored carefully, it naturally tends to grow out of control quickly. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.John W. BoyerDean, The CollegeThe University of ChicagoWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Be honest and be kind to everyone. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Immersing myself in more languages and cultures. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Foreign languages. I was able to live abroad and later work with international clients. I also instilled in my children a love of other cultures. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?No matter how people treat you, be kind to them and you will have no regrets.
