DuPage Symphony Orchestra to open season with celestial works

DuPage Symphony Orchestra strikes up its 63rd season with "Reach for the Stars," a concert pairing Mozart's Symphony No. 41, "Jupiter," with Gustav Holst's seven-movement orchestral suite, "The Planets," which depicts the astrological profiles of our solar system.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.

"Our first concert features one of the greatest symphonies of all time, plus a magnificent, colorful and evocative orchestral masterpiece," said Barbara Schubert, DSO's music director and conductor. "It's a program sure to delight classical music enthusiasts, astrology fans and novices alike."

Schubert said the DSO works each season to raise the bar in every respect.

"The DSO continually strives to achieve the highest level of artistry. Every concert in the season features both pillars of musical history and lesser-known but highly appealing orchestral works," Schubert said.

The DSO is a nonprofit organization with an all-volunteer musician base, averaging 100 performers per symphony concert.

"Our musicians are deeply dedicated and remarkably gifted. The energy and excitement of each concert is powerful," President Teresa Muir said.

Tickets range from $15 to $38. Season ticket subscriptions and individual concert tickets are now available by calling (630) 637-7469 or online at dupagesymphony.org. For group rates or student discounts, call (630) 778-1003.
