'Something Wicked' returns to Side Street Studio Arts

Side Street Studio Arts in downtown Elgin will host a monthlong series of events in conjunction with its October exhibition "Something Wicked."

The fourth annual "Something Wicked" exhibition, created in conjunction with Elgin artists John LaFleur and David Metzter, received a record number of submissions this year. It will feature the work of over 30 individual artists.

The exhibition kicks off the First Friday opening reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the gallery, 15 Ziegler Court. It will feature live music from Think Easy and Phantoms & Pestilence.

The event is open to the public and there is a $5 suggested donation at the door.

"Since opening in 2013, 'Something Wicked' has been one of our most success events," said Side Street Studio Arts founder and director Erin Rehberg. "The diversity and intensity of the visual art and the engaging performers combined with the brewing energy of downtown Elgin in October, leading up to Nightmare on Chicago Street, makes the whole month such a wonderfully wicked time."

The 2016 "Something Wicked" artists include: Erin Schreiner, Kimberly Witz, Stephen W. Schreiner, Jason Larson, Matt Krajewski, Pawel Grajnert, Benita Johnson-Anguiano, Breanne Schenk, Jacob "Killjoi" Montoya, Phil Seifritz, Chris Boyko, Chris Palm, Rodney Dollah, Jeffrey Berner, Christine Owen, Steven Tritt, James Deeb, Karl Jahnke, Erin Cramer, Mary Davisson, Bobby Rowland, Amy Porter, Christian Pena, John French, Maribel Pena, David Metzger, Katy Dickey, Olga Guse, Connor Fenwick, and more.

Side Street Studio Arts was founded by Tanner Melvin and Rehberg in 2013 as an outlet for the Elgin arts scene. Currently under the direction of Amanda Harris, Roberto Martinez, Melvin, and Rehberg, Side Street provides educational and creative resources and an accessible space, run by artists. Its mission is to support the artist and artistic journey through collaboration.
