Boys soccer: Numbers keep adding up for Addison Trail vs. Neuqua Valley

The goals are piling up for Enrique Luna. So are the wins for Addison Trail's boys soccer team.

Luna added two more goals to bring his total to 23 on the season in the Blazers' 2-0 nonconference victory Saturday afternoon in Addison.

It was the 10th win in a row for the Blazers (15-1).

"I wanted more at this point, but it's a team effort," the senior forward said. "I give passes, they give me passes. We work as a team to win."

"He's a good player," Addison Trail coach Ryan Dini said. "He's unselfish too, very unselfish player, looking to set up his teammates. He's the engine for us. He's nonstop. Even when I take him out for just a couple of minutes, he just looks at me like, Coach, leave me out there.

"He's motivated. His goal this season was to get to 30 (goals), so he's got a chance. Let's hope he gets there."

Luna scored his first goal of the game in the 11th minute, getting behind the Neuqua Valley defense on a flick-on header from Ruben Amaro. He took a touch around the goalkeeper and slotted the ball in the open net.

"We have a lot of confidence and momentum going right now, which is really good going into the playoffs (in two weeks)," Luna said.

But before the playoffs arrive, the Blazers have a couple of key West Suburban Gold games to play. Then they host a regional.

"It's been a fun year," Dini added. "We've got a lot of seniors. We're motivated."

Luna's second goal came off a long pass from Jonathan Hernandez that also sent him in 1-on-1 against the Wildcats goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the Blazers' back line kept Neuqua Valley (8-4-4) from getting off many good shots. The Wildcats' best scoring chance came in the 54th minute when Parker Domschke's 40-yard attempt banged off the crossbar.

"Very organized throughout every single line. It also doesn't help when you have too many injuries," Neuqua coach Arnoldo Gonzalez, who rested five starters and gave two others just limited minutes. "You'll take this type of (nonconference) game to give guys a breather."
