Boys golf: Playoff payoff for Vernon Hills' Favia

Vernon Hills' Brian Favia sank a birdie putt on the third playoff hole to earn medalist honors in Vernon Hills' Cougar Classic at White Deer Run Golf Club on Saturday.

Favia, Libertyville's Michael Sefton and Lake Forest's Patrick Moorhead each shot a 76. Sefton had a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole.

Lake Forest won the championship on a fifth-score tiebreaker after both the Scouts and Libertyville carded a 316. Vernon Hills (321) was third, followed by Warren (326), Lakes (348), Richmond-Burton (350), Lake Zurich (350) and Lake Forest Academy (364).

Vernon Hills' Joey Levitan finished fourth with a 78. Warren was led by Zane Blevins' 79. Libertyville got 79s from Michael Watt and Derek Calamari and an 82 from Jacob Mueller. Ryan Brandt shot an 82 for Lake Zurich.

Lakes was paced by Brad Bies' 84 and Adam Nuxoll's 86.
