Man who inadvertently shoots friend sentenced to prison

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - A 20-year-old Urbana man who fatally shot his friend last year as he was firing at someone else will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.

A Champaign County judge on Thursday sentenced Kyjuan Dorsey to 55 years in prison for the slaying of 18-year-old Jeremy O'Neal and 25 years for shooting another man. The (Champaign) News Gazette (http://bit.ly/2d0ZxJh ) reports that Dorsey must serve all 55 years for the murder charge and at least 21 years for aggravated battery with a firearm.

Prosecutors contended at Dorsey's trial that he and O'Neal and another friend were riding in a car when Dorsey from the back seat fired at someone on the street. They said that when the driver crashed into another vehicle, Dorsey inadvertently shot O'Neal in the head.
