Make the cut during Family Pumpkin Carving

Give a gourd a makeover during the Schaumburg Park District's Family Pumpkin Carving event.

Family Pumpkin Carving takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 22, at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. The event, for ages 1 to 14, includes a full-sized pumpkin for each child.

"Pumpkin carving really gets everyone into the Halloween spirit," said Kathleen Benson, Bock Neighborhood Center Manager and general program supervisor. "We supply the pumpkin, designs and the tools to carve."

In addition to scary designs, youngsters also may choose to carve traditional jack-o-lanterns, flowers and princesses.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories, with voting taking place online after the event. Juice and snacks will be provided. An adult must be present with children at all times.

Cost of the event is $15 per child for residents and $23 per child for nonresidents. Registration deadline is Oct. 21.
