4-H to host Science Fun event on Columbus Day
Ever wonder how pudding is made? Or why bananas turn brown when you cut them? Join 4-H for "Hands On, Minds On 3.0" when school is out this Columbus Day.
"Designed for youth in third through sixth grades, this program encourages youth to think like a scientist through creative, challenging 4-H Science activities," said Deanna Roby, 4-H Youth Development Educator. "This year's theme is fun with food science."
During the program, participants will learn how starch chemistry works, experience chemical reactions that make fizzy volcanoes, and explore how foods transform when cooked and why others change color in the air.
Plus, there's the chance to get sticky and gooey while you learn, Roby added.
Registration is open now at web.extension.illinois.edu/dkk/science4h.
Cost is $15 per child. Space is limited, and registration closes Monday, Oct. 3, or when event meets capacity.
"Hands On, Minds On 3.0" will be held in Robinson Hall at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road in St. Charles.
The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 10, with check-in from 9 to 9:30 a.m.
For questions, contact Deanna Roby, extension educator, at (630) 584-6166 or roby@illinois.edu.
If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please notify two weeks prior to the event.
