Sign up for you library card in Grayslake

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Grayslake Area Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to connect people to libraries.

There are still a few days left to take part in a special offer. District residents who sign up for a Grayslake Area Public Library card for the first time before the end of September will be entered into a drawing for prizes in three categories: adults, teens and children.

A library card is free and gives its owner access to all the materials, information, services and activities available at the library. With a Grayslake Area Public Library card, patrons can borrow and enjoy for free more than 240,000 books, movies, magazines and CDs.

A library card also unlocks the door to the world of free digital borrowing of more than 45,000 eMaterials, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eMovies, eMusic, etc., all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from a mobile device.

The benefits that come with a library card include reliable resources for research, interlibrary loans for items not in the library's collection from all over the United States, and the ability to register and use your Grayslake library card at any library in the state of Illinois.

Services available include free meeting space, voter registration, notary services, homebound and book club support.

The Grayslake Area Public Library offers free programs for adults, teens and children, including technology and STEM programs, film and book clubs, cooking, drop-in meditation, storytimes, SAT and ACT practice tests, and more. For a complete listing of upcoming programs, go to calendar.grayslake.info/evanced/lib/eventcalendar.asp and browse by date.

To get a Grayslake Library card for the first time, bring in two forms of ID that have both your name and address to verify residency and a photo ID.

If you have a valid driver's license with your current address, then you will only need one more piece of ID with your address, such as a checkbook, utility bill or piece of mail.

Children younger than 14 must be present and accompanied by a parent/legal guardian at time of sign up.
