COD to Host Natural Resources Symposium Oct. 27

College of DuPage will host a free Natural Resources Symposium from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Student Services Center, Room 3245, on the College's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

This event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the College of DuPage Foundation and the College of DuPage Environmental Club, this symposium will explore a variety of issues related to energy and energy conservation, including development of clean power technologies, reduction of carbon pollution and the transition from fossil fuels to the energy resources of the future. Keynote speaker Dr. Scott Tinker, director of the Bureau of Economic Geology, the State Geologist of Texas and a professor holding the Allday Endowed Chair in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, will discuss the Global Energy 20/20 initiative and the future of energy.

Additional speakers will include U.S. Environmental Protection Agency scientist Alexis Cain and his presentation "The Clean Power Plan," Midwest energy policy analyst Jessica Collingsworth discussing current policies designed to reduce carbon pollution and Mark Williamson, nuclear chemical engineering department manager at Argonne National Laboratory, with his presentation "Towards a Sustainable Nuclear Energy System."

In conjunction with the symposium and a part of the College's Sustainability Film and Discussion Series, a free screening of the film Switch, created by filmmaker Harry Lynch and Dr. Scott Tinker will be shown at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the Health and Science Center, Room 1234 followed by a Q&A and a discussion of the film.
