Mom gets 15 years in prison for neglect in death of son, 1
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis woman convicted of neglect in the death of her 1-year-old son has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said Friday that Diamond Miller also was sentenced Friday to five additional years in a work-release center. A jury convicted Miller last month.
Emergency responders called to the family's home found her son, Elijah Polk, dead on Oct. 29, 2014. Prosecutors have said neither Miller nor her then-boyfriend, Frank Larkins, sought medical attention for the toddler for more than a day while he showed signs of injury.
Medical examinations found the boy suffered fatal blunt force trauma to his abdomen and that he had previously suffered physical abuse.
Larkins faces sentencing Oct. 7 on charges including aggravated battery and two counts of neglect.
