Credit union wraps up season of community outreach

Consumers Credit Union just wrapped up a very active summer of community outreach and support for local not-for-profit organizations.

The member-owned credit union continued its long-standing practice of supporting the communities where its members live and work. This year's outreach extended to more than a dozen community festivals and events, as well as cash donations exceeding $20,000.

"Credit unions were founded on the principle of service to others, and Consumers Credit Union lives that philosophy throughout the year," said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU's CEO.

"We are extremely proud that so many CCU employees also support that philosophy by donating countless hours to local festivals, worthy organizations and local communities throughout northern Illinois. The active support of Team CCU allowed us to expand this summer's involvement to more diverse locations than ever before."

Examples of CCU's 2016 outreach include the Independence Day Parade and Most Blessed Trinity Kermes in Waukegan; and the Chamber of Commerce Expo, the Memorial Day Parade, Beach Fest and Fiestas Patrias in the Round Lake area; as well as Mundelein Days, Gurnee Days, McHenry Days and McHenry Fiesta Days celebrations.

Additionally, the credit union participated in Lake County Wellness Days, One Hope United's Picnic for Hope and Christmas in July, in cooperation with the Waukegan Park District, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, and the Waukegan Puerto Rican Society.

CCU stepped up with cash contributions exceeding $20,000 to local agencies and organizations. This was particularly helpful this year, as many not-for-profits experienced cuts from the state of Illinois.

Examples include the Waukegan Public Library, Waukegan Township's Martin Luther King Dreamers Breakfast, the College of Lake County's Foundation, Mano a Mano Family Resource Center, the Lake County Most Influential African American Awards, P.L.A.N. Food Pantry and the Black Chamber of Commerce.

Consumers Credit Union is member-owned with offices in Waukegan, Mundelein, Round Lake Beach, Gurnee, Volo, Palatine, Schaumburg and Northbrook and online at www.myconsumers.org.
