Boys soccer: Beezley's strike lifts Lakes

Cam Beezley's goal in the first 10 minutes held up, as Lakes' boys soccer team edged visiting Grayslake Central 1-0 in Northern Lake County Conference play Thursday.

"Both teams played quality soccer on both sides of the ball in a game that could have gone either way," coach Kevin Kullby said after his Eagles improved to 7-5 and 4-0 in the NLCC.

Goalies Wade Parmley and Danny Wieczorek each had 6 saves, as Lakes posted its fifth shutout in a row.

David Young had 4 saves in net for Grayslake Central (7-5-1, 2-2).

Antioch took the lead in the second half, before Round Lake's Antonio Foncesa got the equalizer off an assist from Sotelo with 10 minutes to go. With seven (minutes) left, Berdenis scored the winner on what appeared to be a hand ball. After the referees discussed the play, the goal was given.

"When they caught us on the counter attack and senior (keeper) Bryce Boyd forced the shot wide and onto the post, our boys responded well and tightened up defensively.
