Elgin parolee charged with armed robbery

A man on parole for armed robbery was arrested after he robbed a business in Elgin at knife point, police said.

Eugene R. Tasior, 56, was arrested at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday outside his home in the 800 block of Bode Road in Elgin, about 45 minutes after he robbed a business at Clock Tower Plaza, Cmdr. Al Young said in a news release.

Tasior had been paroled in September 2015 after being sentenced to 18 years in jail after an armed robbery conviction in Cook County in 2006, records show.

An employee of the business told police a man wearing a handkerchief over his face displayed a knife and took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing, Young said.

Tasior was a frequent customer of the business and the employee recognized his voice, Young said. Detectives from the major investigations division matched the description to Tasior, Young said. "As we approached him by his house, he more or less confesses when he sees us," he said.

Tasior was charged with one count of armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $250,000 in Kane County bond court Thursday morning.

His criminal record includes an attempted burglary conviction in 1987 and a possession of a controlled substance conviction in 1998.
