Friday Flicks to screen 'Planetary' at Geneva church

"Planetary" is this month's Friday Flicks presentation at 7 p.m. Sept. 23, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva. This month's film focuses not on the politics or economics of the issues we face today, but on our world view and how that must change.

"Planetary" explores our interconnected nature and the roots of our current environmental crisis, reframing it as a fundamental problem with the way we see the world and our place within it. It is a wake-up call that explores our origins and our future as a species.

The film is a reminder that it's time to shift our perspective and to rethink who we really are, to reconsider our relationship with ourselves, each other and the world around us. "Planetary" interweaves imagery from NASA Apollo missions, the Milky Way, Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas, and the cacophonous sounds of downtown Tokyo and Manhattan, with interviews of NASA astronauts, environmentalists, anthropologists and the head of the Tibetan Buddhist Kagyu school. It sheds new light on the ways our worldview is profoundly affecting life on our planet.

The film is part of the free monthly fourth-Friday Film programs that are sponsored by the Social Justice Team of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva. The public is encouraged to register at uusg.org/friday-flicks/ to receive email notices of future programs.

The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, established in 1842 and the oldest church in Geneva, is a diverse, welcoming community that endeavors to make its covenant a living reality.
