New traffic signals to be installed along Lakewood Road

The construction contract was approved by the McHenry County Board Aug. 16 and work is now underway installing two new traffic signals along Lakewood Road located in the village of Lake in the Hills. The first traffic signal, at Reed Road, will not only provide better flow overall at this intersection but also will enhance access to the McHenry County Conservation District Exner Marsh site and improved pedestrian flow as well.

The second traffic signal location is at Miller Road which also will improve traffic and pedestrian flow. The need for these new traffic signals is in response to the new Centegra Huntley Hospital that opened this year.

As construction moves forward, the traffic signals at the Miller Road intersection will look different. That is because they are considered "temporary."

During the planning of the hospital, the Miller Road intersection was identified as possibly needing additional roadway improvements. Until more traffic studies are done to determine exactly what improvements are necessary, the "temporary" traffic signal will help keep the area moving smoothly.

Motorists should expect periodic daytime lane closures.

The following is the approximate project schedule (dates subject to change):

• September: Install erosion and sediment control measures, begin roadway and ADA improvements at Reed Road and Miller Road;

• October: Install underground electric conduits and concrete foundations;

• November: Acquisition of major traffic signal components;

• December: Install traffic signals;

• Late December: Anticipated traffic signal turn-on.

Please drive safely and watch out for workers
