Campton Township to host its Prairie Fest

Campton Township will host its annual Prairie Fest from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the historic Corron Farm, 7N761 Corron Road, Campton Hills.

Admission is free, though donations are accepted. Corron Farm Preservation Society will hold a 50/50 raffle to support the rehabilitation of the dairy barn.

The event, held rain or shine, will feature tours of the 1850s brick Corron home; tractor-pulled wagon tours of the savanna, wetlands, and prairie; square dancing demonstrations; artifact displays from Elgin Public Museum; a children's corner; free refreshments; and door prizes. There also will be a visit by members of the 1st Brigade Illinois Volunteers.

Corron Farm Preservation Society members will unveil a horse-drawn carriage from the late 1800s that was recently sent to the Miller Carriage Co. in Shipshewana, Indiana.

The carriage was donated to the preservation society by the Corron family and the refurbishment was sponsored by a society board member. The carriage had been located in the loft of the dairy barn for more than 50 years and was taken down in preparation for the rehabilitation of the barn by Trillium Dell Timberworks of Knoxville, Illinois.
