Keg tapping signals start of Palatine Oktoberfest
The Rotary Club of Palatine's 9th annual Oktoberfest celebration opened with a ceremonial tapping of the first keg Friday evening by Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz. The three-day event in the village's downtown features authentic German music, food, beverages and activities for all ages.
On Saturday, entertainment includes Die Musikmeisters performing from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by Phenix from 8 p.m. to midnight. The musical lineup Sunday features Die Musikmeisters on stage from noon to 2:45 p.m., followed by Johnny Wagner performing from 3 to 6 p.m.
Saturday is Family Day and will kick off with an Oktoberfest Family Bike Ride at 11:30 a.m. sponsored by the Bike Palatine Club. Visit www.bikepalatine.com for more information. Games and activities for Family Day continue from noon to 3 p.m. with face painting, police and fire department displays, balloon art, children's raffle prizes and projects by Home Depot.
Musical performances start at noon with the Palatine High School and Plum Grove Junior High orchestras, as well as the Quest Academy Choir, followed by Bonnie Lindholm School of Dance and JP Wood Martial Arts. At 1 p.m., the winners of the Scarecrows on Parade decorating contest will be announced.
