For our #TBT photo gallery this week, we take a look back at fall sports in the 1960s and 1970s.
"The fall season gets the school year started with a bang. Football offers all the pageantry of the school year, with its big crowds, marching bands and Homecoming built around the season," said Daily Herald Assistant Sports Editor Orrin Schwarz.
Cross Country and football were popular in the 1960s. Boys soccer did not become popular until later and the first Illinois state title was in 1972. Girls volleyball also became popular in the 1970s.
Today there is a wealth of other sports for athletes and fans to enjoy: boys soccer, girls volleyball, girls swimming, girls tennis, boys cross country, girls cross country, boys golf and girls golf.
