Gail Borden to host robot show funded by book sale

The Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin starting next month will host a giant robot animals exhibit, largely thanks to its annual book and media sale, which starts Friday.

"We are very excited to offer Robot Zoo to our community," said Carole Medal, the library's executive director. "It will amaze, entertain and educate all at the same time. We will have additional robotics activities and we will highlight local robotics companies and career opportunities as well."

Based on the book by John Kelly, the exhibit will be on display Oct. 7 to Dec. 11. Visitors will be able to control the head of a 9-foot rhinoceros, manipulate springs and shock absorbers, and build their very own robot creatures.

The exhibit by Evergreen Exhibitions came at a "significantly reduced price," and is paid by the library's' foundation, which in turn derives is funding from book sales, library spokeswoman Denise Raleigh said.

The book sale will include local artists, and takes place during library hours through Sunday at 270 N. Grove Ave.
