Forest preserve programs help preschoolers explore the natural world

Fish, insects, nature's harvest and turkeys will be the themes for this fall's nature programs for preschoolers from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County. On Sept. 22, the insect wonderland will be the theme, followed by nature's harvest on Oct. 27 and turkey trot on Nov. 17.

In "Nature Tykes," 3-year olds explore the natural world through a variety of activities with their parent or caregiver. Sessions include a combination of stories, nature hikes, songs, games and crafts. The programs run from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursdays at Creek Bend Nature Center.

"Little Naturalists" is the forest preserve district's hour-long program for children age 4 and 5. Children will discover the wonders of nature through a variety of activities including songs, hikes, stories, games and crafts. This program is for the young participants. Parents/caregivers and siblings may enjoy the trails of LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, or wait inside the nature center, during the program. The"Little Naturalists" programs run from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdays at Creek Bend Nature Center.
