Waukegan man arrested after shooting in Beach Park

A Waukegan man faces charges after a shooting and a subsequent confrontation with Lake County sheriff's police, authorities said Wednesday.

Brandon A. Brown, 26, of the 1900 block of 10th Street, is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and unlawful possession of cannabis.

The shooting was reported about 1 a.m. Monday. Sheriff's deputies were called to a gas station on the 38500 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park and found a 42-year-old Waukegan man with a gunshot wound in his shoulder, according to a news release.

The shooting occurred while the victim was talking with an acquaintance in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex, police said. The shooter ran away, and the victim drove to the gas station and called police.

The man was taken to an undisclosed hospital and was expected to survive, police said.

Investigators determined Brown was responsible for the shooting and got a warrant for his arrest, police said. Brown and the victim know each other, police said.

On Tuesday, police found Brown as he drove up to his house. When he tried to drive away, he hit a police car, police said.

Officers found Brown had marijuana with him when he was arrested.

Brown's bond was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 3.
