Illinois must end inequalities in school funding

The Sept. 6 front-page story about the educational inequities between Waukegan and Stevenson is a timely reminder that Illinois must finally address the problems of inadequate school funding support across the state.

It is unconscionable, shortsighted and immoral that the quality of education for students is determined by ZIP codes.

It is high time that Gov. Rauner and the legislative leaders set aside their narrow and partisan agendas and work to ensure that all students, regardless of their economic backgrounds and where they live, get the high-quality education they need and deserve.

If this means the residents of this state pay a little more in taxes, it is an investment well worth making.
