Low-income families hurt by GOP actions

I'm a child care provider serving low-income families who rely on the Child Care Assistance Program so they can work. Over the last year I've seen the governor and the state Republicans he controls destroy this successful program that aides working parents with the sky-rocketing cost of child care.

The long-term damage to CCAP is putting kids in jeopardy and is forcing many parents out of the workforce. Today there are 55,000 fewer kids in the program than a year ago.

Governor Rauner recently vetoed a bill (SB 730) that would have restored this damage and expanded eligibility to the program, enabling thousands of working parents to continue to support their families while knowing their children are safe and learning.

Our State Representative, Christine Winger, voted against this critical bill and as we head to the polls this November, those of us who care about the vulnerable families in our communities who are struggling to support themselves better, remember her actions when we cast our ballots.

Cynthia Borbas is running against Rep. Winger and is committed to working to stop the governor's attacks on children, and to support programs like CCAP that help get more parents into the workforce.
