Morning rain doesn't mar Campton United Fall Fest

It was stormy and wet when volunteers started showing up at 4:30 a.m. to prepare for the sixth annual Campton United Fall Fest Saturday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Campton Hills. But blue skies and puffy white clouds helped make the 3 to 10 p.m. event a success.

Event Chairman Mark Malloy said the crowd usually starts at the Kid's Corner inflatable obstacle area and, as the day progresses, moves through the food and drink booths toward the live music stage.

A car show, bags tourney, reptile show and fire department games are part of the fun. The fireworks were moved up to 8:15 p.m. to accommodate families this year. The event raises thousands of dollars, including more than $25,000 just from the 5K run, for local charities and organizations
