Runners get muddy for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Mountains of mud and outrageous obstacles kept thousands of runners on their toes Saturday during the MuckFest MS race at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake.

Runners tackled more than 15 obstacles - including Mt. Muck-Imanjaro, Spill Hill and Shake & Quake - that spin, swing and fling them during the event.

Sponsored nationally by AbbVie, the fun, mud and obstacle 5K event gives 100 percent of fundraising dollars to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, has symptoms that range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.

To date, the MuckFest MS runners and volunteers have raised more than $21 million to support the life-changing work of the National MS Society.
