Author of The Last Voyageurs Coming to Schaumburg Library

Author Lorraine Boissoneault will present the story of 24 young men who took an epic historical journey in "The Last Voyageurs" from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Rasmussen Room of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. Boissoneault will recount the tale of the 1976 expedition, led by Elgin French teacher Reid Lewis, who wanted to recreate the voyage of French Explorer René-Robert Cavelier La Salle.

The danger-riddled reenactment was preceded by the group sewing their own 17th century clothing and constructing black powder rifles. Paddling handmade canoes, they traveled down the St. Lawrence River, across the Great Lakes and over 500 miles of frozen land to the Mississippi River on a 3,300-mile journey. The group even abandoned their modern identities in order to live like LaSalle and his fellow explorers in the 1600s.

Copies of Boissoneault's book, "The Last Voyageurs," will be available for purchase and signing after the program.

To register for this free program, call (847) 923-3347, or visit the Information Desk on the Central Library's second floor.
