Montini falls to Fenwick

Fenwick is on a roll this year with its third win of the 2016 season and first in the Chicago Catholic Green opener with a 38-6 defeat of Montini on Friday in River Grove.

Friars senior quarterback Jacob Keller had an another impressive performance, throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more while racking up 13 completions in 17 attempts for 167 yards.

"We were outplayed, outhustled, outcoached, out everything," said Broncos coach Chris Andriano.

The Friars (2-0, 1-0) offense scored on its first four possessions and had no punts in the first half. Driving through the Broncos defense for 22 first downs in the first half, Keller capped the first two drives with a 16-yard pass to Martin and a 6-yarder to Jack Henige to give the Friars a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter Hendzel Conor booted a 36-yard field goal and Keller added a touchdown on a 9-yard run. The Broncos could only manage a 26-yard field goal by Michael Cooney as the Friars took a 24-3 lead into the half.

Broncos (1-2, 0-1) senior running Prince Walker, who had not played this season due to injury, did not start in this game but entered the field in the second quarter picking a 4-yard gain followed by a 37-yard run. However, on the long run he reinjured his already strained quad and did not play again.

Connor Lillig scored on a 12-yard run and Keller closed out the Friars scoring with his second touchdown of the game on a 7-yard run.

"We played a good football team tonight, they've won championships," said Friars coach Gene Nudo. "Our team played a great game and executed well."

The Broncos started junior Matt Morrissey at quarterback in place of Bradley Norgle. Norgle is out with a hairline break in his throwing hand index finger sustained in last week's win against Lake Zurich.

The only offense the Broncos could muster in the second half was Cooney's second field goal of game.

The Broncos' Will Smith Jr. carried the bulk of the offense with a hard-earned 76 yards on 16 carries. Smith made no excuses for the loss.

"We are a good football team," Smith said. "We have to put this past us and get back to playing good football."
