Man killed outside child's birthday party in Aurora

A man was shot and killed late Sunday after attending a child's birthday party in Aurora, police said Monday.

Andres Ochoa, 31, of Aurora, was found unconscious and unresponsive after having been struck by gunfire about 10:30 p.m. on the 600 block of High Street, according to police. He was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and later pronounced dead.

Authorities said there was a disturbance at the birthday party moments before the shooting.

Police found two other people at the scene who were in need of medical attention for non-shooting related injuries. After they were given medical treatment, they were "less than fully cooperative" during interviews with investigating officers, police said.

Authorities said the shooting does not appear to be random.

Police said Monday they continue to search for witnesses and evidence, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 256-5500 or (630) 892-1000.
