Help with habitat restoration

Habitat restoration and stewardship team at Volo Bog State Natural Area hosts volunteer days Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays through November. Hours are 8:30 to 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 12, Oct. 24 and Nov. 7; 9:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Sept. 15 and 24, Oct. 13 and 27 and Nov. 10; and, Saturday, Sept. 24, Oct. 22 and Nov. 5 and 19. Dress for the weather and bring work gloves and drinking water. New volunteers are welcome to tackle exotic invasive species and help restore natives habitat. Each session may involve pulling, cutting, planting and gathering seeds, depending on the season. Registration is requested at (815) 344-1294 or dnr.volobog@illinois.gov. Leave a name and cellphone number. Kids 10 and older welcome with their adult. New volunteers must register ahead and arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork.
